by Cameron Carter

The type of lifestyle that most people have these days is very hectic. Our days are usually filled to the brim with responsibilities at home and at work, as well as several social obligations. Oftentimes, this leads to mental chaos that prevents us from functioning to the best of our abilities.

If you are in such a situation, all you really need to do to regain control is to de-clutter your mind, re-evaluate your priorities and re-create a clear path towards a peaceful and successful life.

1. Identify Your Priorities

In the chaos of your ultra-modern lifestyle, it is very possible that your priorities will inadvertently get mixed up from time to time. This is why it is absolutely essential to occasionally take some time to take a step back and check if you are giving the right amount of attention to the more important things in your life. There might be a million things you want to accomplish but you only have one body and it is crucial to make the decision as to which aspects of your life deserves more of your attention and energy.

2. Do Not Stretch Yourself Too Thin

Get one task done at a time and don't over commit yourself. Make sure you have enough time to get everything you promise to do before taking on anymore projects.

3. Learn To Say No

When people don't like doing a task they have a tendency to procrastinate that task, and if you don't have time to take that task in the first place then this can cause havoc to your schedule. So instead of causing all this stress to yourself simple learn to say "No." Say it politely and let the person know you simply don't have time to take on such a task.

4. Create a List of Things To Do

Now take the tasks that you've decided are most important from step 1 and make a list. Schedule out your time putting those tasks first on your list. Then put down the others and get them done. It's normal not to get the last things on you list done. Just put them on the next days list, and don't stress it as long as your finish your priorities.

5. Learn To Delegate

When you are going through your daily tasks at home, take a second look at them and decide if you can delegate them to other members of the household. Make them age appropriate and teach even the kids even some responsibility. This gives you more time to get other things done and you won't be so tired from being responsible for all of the household duties.

Before you can de-clutter your mind, you should eliminate the clutter in your home and office first. It is actually true that if your surroundings are clean and organized, you can think much more clearly and your stress levels will plunge to zero.
